Purpose-built handheld BioShock may be scrapped by publisher

BioShock Vita in doubt following Irrational disbanding

BioShock Vita is in doubt following the disbanding of Irrational, and 2K Games has declined to comment on its future.

Following the self-imposed exodus of Irrational – announced earlier this week in a message from its creative director and BioShock mastermind Ken Levine, the publisher declined to offer an update on the production when asked by CVG.

The publishers’ reluctance to comment may indicate that the game has been scrap entirely.

Little has been said about the BioShock Vita since its unveiling at E3 2011, and Levine admitted last year that the title was still to begin development as he struggled to forge a deal between Sony and Irrational’s parent, Take-Two.

In July 2013, Levine told some overly inquisitive fans that he was still attempting to “get the two companies to sign off” on the project after what appears to have been a hasty announcement two years before.

BioShock for Vita was originally announced as being “built from the ground up”, although Levine has previously said that the title could be outsourced to another studio, if it could achieve the quality bar he expects.
