Activision Blizzard accounts for 25% of last week’s game sales

Gfk Chart Track has revealed that Activision’s domination of last week’s chart meant three of its titles – Call of Duty: World at War, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King and Guitar Hero: World Tour – accounted for 25 per cent of all games sold in the previous week.

Call of Duty: World at War – which we revealed yesterday is the new UK number one for the week ending November 15th – is now the UK’s third fastest selling game of all time, behind GTAIV and GTA: San Andreas.

The chart’s number two, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, is now the UK’s fastest selling PC game ever, beating the 2003 record held by Championship Manager 4.

Elsewhere, Chart Track has revealed that sales of Gears of War 2 were down 64 per cent week on week, hence its slip from number one to four – while Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii and Professor Layton, despite the two slipping down a place each to seven and eight, actually increased sales – up 9% and 12% respectively.
