Winning teams to exhibit at Birmingham EGX event, and several events around globe

Abertay University launches Dare Academy game design contest

Abertay University’s game design competition is now live, with Abertay’s student teams competing for a chance both to produce their own game, but also to gain industry exposure by showcasing their prototypes at EGX, UK’s biggest games conference.

Abertay teams are competing for a prize package that will see the top three teams scoop a trip to international games events in China, India and the United States. The fully funded spots will send the successful teams out of the country in trips occurring in "October, November and December 2017."

There’s also the chance for students to show their game to 75,000 potential players when the EGX comes to Birmingham’s NEC later in the year.

The final six teams involved in the contest will be asked to design, test and create their prototypes, with a budget of £1,000. They’ll do this during a month long hothousing period at the university itself, where they’ll be mentored and given workshops that highlight topics like legal issues, marketing a game, generating press and also pitching to publishers.

The teams will be judged by professionals from the industry, which includes Peter Molyneux. More information can be found at the Dare Academy website
