Supercell has invested $2.9m into Shipyard Games, picking up a minority stake in the Helsinki-based company. The investment will be used to create a location-based mobile game.
This is the second big investment by Supercell in the past year. They picked up 51 per cent of Frogmind last September for $7.8m. Supercell themselves were acquired by Chinese conglomerate Tencent last year for $8.6b.
The investment from the Clash Royale creators is primarily notable because, at the time of Supercell’s funding, Shipyard Games is barely 2 months old.
Shipyard’s team includes three former Grey Area employees, the company behind 2011 location-based game Shadow Cities.
