17,000 attendees converge in San Francisco for over 500 lectures and sessions

Success of GDC 09 ‘proves the resilience of the games industry’

The organisers of GDC 09 are celebrating the success of last week’s conference, suggesting that the popularity of the event proves the resilience of the games industry.

With over 17,000 attendees and more than 500 lectures, panels, summits, tutorials and roundtable discussions, the San Francisco event and its various satellite events has been billed as the world’s largest industry-only event dedicated to the advancement of interactive entertainment.

“The success of this past week in San Francisco proves the resilience of the games industry,” said event director Meggan Scavio. “It is a testament to the spirit of our more than 20-year-old conference and community, and evidence of video games’ continued evolution into a mainstream form of entertainment, that the various constituents of the industry were able come together at GDC as they did year.”

All Access Conference pass holders can now see hundreds of viewable sessions from GDC09 and past events via the myGDC Vault.

GDC 2010 has now been confirmed, and returns to the San Francisco Moscone Centre from March 9th to 13th. For more information visit the official website.
