UK studios' online business practices called into question

Study hits out at unproductive file transfers

A report has been published damning file sharing practices between studios in the UK.

The study states that more than a quarter of gaming companies spend roughly two days every week waiting for files to transfer across slow broadband connections. It also said that 30 percent of Northern gaming agencies are crippled by slow internet connection.

It was also revealed that less than 10 per cent of digital and creative companies across the North were using speeds of 20MB or more, yet they regularly sent files of up to 1GB. The most common broadband speed was between 5MB to 10MB per second.

NorthernNet, the company behind the study, also claims that studios could save around 14 hours work time each week by transferring files using private networks.
