But no details given by publisher on extent of the layoffs

THQ has made redundancies to its administrative and publishing departments, the company has revealed.

No details were given on the extent of the layoffs, but it is believed these do not directly affect its five internal studios, which include Relic, Volition and Montreal.

“THQ confirms a reduction in force to the company’s administration and publishing organisation," the publisher confirmed to Game Informer.

"As recently announced, the company is exiting the kids’ licensed games category, and is focusing on its core game franchises and developing its digital initiatives.”

“The company will provide greater financial detail regarding the costs and organisational benefit on its third quarter 2012 conference call scheduled for Thursday, February 2, 2012."

THQ laid off 30 staff last month at its Play development team in Agoura Hills, after poor sales of the uDraw game tablet.

Earlier this week the publisher was also forced fight off rumours that it had closed down production on games due for 2014, after claims by a US analyst claiming the full lineup had been cancelled, as well as a planned MMO.
