Some big surprises and some you might expect

Steam unveils top 100 sellers for 2016

Steam has unveiled, via the medium of sale, the top 100 sellers on Valve’s platform this year. The list includes full price games, but also free to play titles, giving solid information on what’s performing well on the platform and what isn’t.

The list presents the top 100 products on Steam in order of the gross revenue they’ve made this year, meaning these are the most popular Steam games of 2016, at least in terms of cash made. This is a big success for titles like The Division and No Man’s Sky, both of which had significant backlash after launch but have nestled top spots by the end of the year. Down the list, surprises in the form of titles like 2012’s Arma III, 2007’s Team Fortress 2 and free to play Warframe all holding spots in the gold tier.

Other surprises were Doom, which didn’t crack the top 12. Rainbow Six Siege which made the top 24, and Watch Dogs 2 which made the top 40 despite worries about its uncertain sales.

There’s a big list here. I’d recommend having a nose through yourself, there are lots of eyebrow raising choices, but you can’t argue with Steam’s selection criteria.
