Servers to go back online 'by end of December' after internal investigation into security breach

No personal information was accessed following the recent security breach of Square Enix member servers in Japan and North America.

This is despite the publisher revealing last week that up to 1.8 million accounts may have been compromised, with information including customer names, phone numbers and e-mails.

As a result, Square Enix said it will restarted the members service by the end of December, with exact details to be announced “at a later date”.

“As a result of our continuing investigation, we have now confirmed that the database in which we store personal information was NOT accessed during the recent server intrusion,” read a statement form the company.

“Therefore, your personal information was not compromised by an unknown third party.”

Square Enix first announced the servers had been hacked on December 13th and took the servers down whilst an internal investigation was conducted into the breach.

The incident was also reported to the Japanese government.
