Gearbox, Ubisoft, Pivotal and others to use foliage middleware

Five new studios have signed up to use SpeedTree RT on their forthcoming game projects.

Gearbox will be using SpeedTree for the forthcoming Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, while Ubisoft have licensed the solution for The Settlers – Rise of an Empire. Bath-based Pivotal Games’ future next-gen console and PC titles will also include SpeedTree technology, although specific game names have not been announced. Both French studio Cyanide and CITY Interactive, a Polish developer focused on value titles, will also be using the tech for upcoming titles.

Gearbox president Randy Pitchford commented: “The SpeedTree RT software has significantly helped the Gearbox Software artists and developers achieve an unparalleled level of quality and performance towards the creative vision for Brothers in Arms Hell’s Highway.”

“Gearbox Software has done incredible work in an impressive array of genres. To be included in their newest offering, particularly as part of the hugely successful Brothers in Arms series, is a tremendous honor,” noted Michael Sechrest, president of SpeedTree’s developer IDV.

Jon Kay, a producer at Pivotal Games, added: “To continue developing games to the standard our large fan base expects, we are committed to using the best tools and technologies. SpeedTree RT is widely regarded as an essential ingredient in today’s best titles.”
