PlayStation Store to open floodgates following jammed release schedule

Sony to rush through PlayStation Store releases

Sony will expedite PlayStation Store releases as the firm plays catch-up on weeks of downtime.

Developers waiting on the network for updates, promotions and full game releases will now have their content squeezed together in a rapid release schedule.

Sony has not opened the PlayStation Store since the service went down, over four weeks ago, on April 16th.

Planned content releases from Sony, as well as third-party studios, have jammed during the outage. There has been a sense of grievance from many, though not all, of the external PSN studios Develop has spoken to.

One studio said it was losing thousands of pounds per week due to the service’s collapse.

Now Sony wants to catch up on its schedule, and it will pile releases together in order to pick up speed.

“To date, three Wednesday publishes were missed and rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content,” read a Sony notice to customers.

“To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored.”

The PlayStation Network was hacked between April 17th and 19th, compromising details of over 77 million registered users.
