Sony Computer Entertainment America has filed a patent for a software/hardware set up that will attempt to detect the player’s emotional state.
The company’s patent filing details both a microphone picking up on local noises (such as laughter) along with a PlayStation Eye camera apparently detecting the user’s facial expressions.
Both peripherals are connected to the PS3, which processes the data accordingly.
Siliconera’s unearthing of the patent implies that Sony is prepared, at least, to further develop its post-controller technology beyond the sixaxis solutions of the past.
Microsoft has already revealed its hand in motion control-gaming, with its upcoming project Natal promised to be able to read body motions, subject voices and expressions.
