Tuesday evening session described as presentation on innovation at PlayStation and the future of gaming

Sony plans Future of Innovation GDC talk amid rumours of VR headset reveal

Sony is to host a session on the future of innovation at GDC next week, potentially pointing to a reveal of its long-rumoured virtual reality headset.

The Tuesday evening session will be hosted by SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, senior software engineer for SCEA R&D Anton Mikhailov and SCEA R&D senior director Richard Marks. The latter has previously played key role in developing the EyeToy and Move systems.

The talk is described as a "presentation on innovation at PlayStation and the future of gaming".

Sony’s new GDC session comes after a report last month suggested the company was set to reveal its own VR headset for the PS4 at the developer conference.

It is thought to have been close to revealing the tech before, but an inside source claimed the firm "had deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it".

While news of the session does not directly point to a reveal, the sparse session details and the terms "future of innovation", coinciding with the VR announcement rumours, could point to an unveiling of new technology come Tuesday.

The Game Developers Conference 2014 will take place between March 17th and March 21st.

Sony’s Future of Innovation session will take place on March 18th at Room 130 in the North Hall at 5:45pm.
