May 31st deadline missed as network is tested to its limits

The PlayStation Network will fully recover from its devastating security breach by the end of this week, the company has said.

A global restoration operation comes weeks after some PSN features resumed service.

However, there is no return date for the service in Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea.

Sony’s initial target for full restoration was May 31st, though fortifying the entirety of its network has proved difficult.

By mid-April, Sony discovered that the sensitive data of some 77 million PSN accounts had been breached.

PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai told Reuters that the network was subject to “additional testing” to further secure the network.

"We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time," he added.
