US studio to use investment to expand operations and continue development of debut title

Social and casino game developer Bee Cave Games has raised $1.3 million in seed funding.

The US studio will use the investment to help the company expand and support the development of its debut title, Blackjack Casino.

The funding round was led by Matrix Partners, as well as a select number of other private investors.

“We are thrilled to be working with Josh and Matrix,” said Bee Cave Games CEO Erik Bethke.

“With his broad entrepreneurial track record and direct experience with Betfair, Josh is the perfect partner to push me as a CEO and to help Bee Cave Games rapidly acquire users while continuing to deliver a fantastic user experience. Matrix’s longstanding reputation of supporting entrepreneurs only increases the potential for our success.”

Other recent investors in the company, which specialises in casino, social and mobile games, include Zynga co-founder Eric Schiermeyer, who also joined the firm as a board advisor, and Diablo co-creator Erich Schaefer.

The studio was formed by ex-Zynga Austin veterans Erik Bethke, Nimai Malle and Jeremy Strauser last year, and initially raised $1.4m in funding.
