SIGGRAPH bolsters focus on video games graphics

Popular visual arts conference wants interactive content

CG and visual arts showcase conference SIGGRAPH has put out a call for video games content.

The event will feature an expanded focus on games in 2009, according to the organisers - and this year's Computer Animation Festival, part of the conference, will dedicate a segment of the Festival specifically to real-time rendering projects.

SIGGRAPH hopes to demo the content submitted live on their relevant platforms such as 360, PS3 and PC.

Demoed real-time work will have its own jury of industry professionals and experts, says organisers: "Entries will be judged on creativity, innovation, performance and most importantly, the ability to render in real time in front of a live audience during the Computer Animation Festival."

The work will be show cased as part of a evening theatre during the festival and during The Sanbox, part of SIGGRAPH dedicated to games.

"The addition of live, real-time rendering work is going to make this one of the most dynamic and innovative Festivals in SIGGRAPH history,” added Ronen Barzel, SIGGRAPH 2009 conference chair.

"The gaming industry has been a substantial innovator in real-time graphics, and now the best gaming work can be showcased at SIGGRAPH alongside the latest developments in research, science, art, and technology from around the globe."

SIGGRAPH takes place on Monday, August 3rd through to Friday, August 7th at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, USA.
