Starting with an overview of the region by Denki's Brian Baglow, this week Develop is publishing a series of exploring the game development sector in Scotland.

As well as courting a reputation as a proving ground for forward thinking educational methods and government policies, Scotland has risen to become a vanguard for the progression of the games industry.

Home to big hitters like Rockstar North and Realtime Worlds, Scotland also hosts a number of unique industry events such as the NeON festival, counts prolific smaller studios including Axis amongst its residents, and handles innovative initiatives such as Dare to be Digital.
