Mobile game development group Scoreloop has secured €2 million in funding as the firm looks to expand its unique iPhone service.
The German company provides free development tools for mobile game publishers, which allow game creators to implement online multiplayer features in their games.
According to a Ventrebeat report, Scoreloop makes its money from selling play credits to customers.
If two iPhone users want to play each other on a Scoreloop-supported game, they have to use up one Scoreloop coin to do so, and can gamble more credits on them winning the game.
This Scoreloop currency can be exchanged for in-game DLC and various upgrades.
Scoreloop’s service also provides iPhone developers with the opportunity to promote their games to customers as they purchase similar Scoreloop-tied titles.
The rapidly-rising number of titles available on the iPhone means that many developers are struggling to get discovered. Scoreloop aims to alleviate this with its connected catalogue of games, as well as its integrated networking service for users.
So far, Scoreloop has over 500 registered game developers who have published 40 games to the AppStore.
The company, though only in its first year, is now contemplating expanding its service to other platforms such as Google’s Android.
