Sony Computer Entertainment America is to launch a new programme to train the next generation of PSP and PS2 engineers.
Called PlayStation-edu, the scheme gives universities and colleges the opportunity to buy PSP and PS2 development kits, similar to SCEE’s PSP academic programme announced at last year’s Develop conference.
Included with the development packages are all software, hardware, documentation and samples, as well as access to a special student forum on the SCEA support website.
Writing on the official PlayStation.blog, SCEA developer support senior manager Mark Danks said: "PlayStation-edu is for computer science and engineering students who want to understand how the hardware works in PlayStation consoles.
"Schools which teach game programming or computer architecture can use the development kits in their classes. SCEA wants to make sure that students who are graduating from college are ready to program on PlayStation hardware and that means getting it into your hands."
