Japanese fonts go vector with UI techScaleform has signed a deal with Japanese firm Fontworks to bring vector versions of its fonts to the market.
Many Japanese developers license fonts from the company, but the terms dictate that OpenType fonts must be handled as images in bitmap format. Scaleform's vector-based UI technology can now be partnered with the fonts to save memory and enhance scalability for SD and HD displays.
"Our joint initiative with Scaleform, the leading solution for video game user interface design, enables Japanese customers to use their existing processes while augmenting their capabilities," said Fumikazu Matsuyuki, CEO of Fontworks. "It is our pleasure and objective to offer the best solutions and more convenience for video games developers and publishers."
Brendan Iribe, president and CEO of Scaleform, added: "We are honored to align ourselves with Fontworks, the industry leader for fonts in the Japanese game industry. This agreement demonstrates both companies' strong commitment to not only meet customer requirements but advance the craft of game development for Japanese publishers."
