Scaleform GFx 4.0 to enable the creation of Flash-based applications, interfaces and games for popular mobile platforms

In a forthcoming addition to the technology offering from middleware outfit Scaleform, the company's GUI solution is soon to offer a set of new features and optimisations designed specifically to enable the development of applications, interfaces and games for iPhones, iPads, iPods and Android-based phones and tablets.

“The inclusion of advanced features like the new multi-threaded rendering engine to accelerate mobile content brings Scaleform’s power and extensibility to a completely new market,” said Brendan Iribe, president and CEO of Scaleform.

“Not only can game developers familiar with Scaleform use it to create immersive mobile games and interfaces; any application developer can now use Scaleform to power graphically rich apps and custom user interfaces for many of the most popular mobile devices available today.”

The new features are to be showcased at Mobile World Congress, taking place in Barcelona, Spain from February 14th this year.

Key mobile optimisations for Scaleform GFx 4.0 include multi-threaded architecture and rendering designed to cater for the trend that sees mobile chip sets move to multi-core, and a mobile-tuned AMP Profiler that has been designed to provide a comprehensive view of CPU usage, rendering stats and memory allocation.

The company has also included a new mobile UI kit conceived to offer an easy-to-use, out-of-the-box starting point to quickly design mobile applications, and support for stereoscopic 3D on auto-stereo 3D mobile gaming devices.
