Studio could be rebranded under the EA label

The co-founder of Bioware has left the company, according to reports.

Videogamer claims Greg Zeschuk has not been sighted at the studio for weeks, and neither he nor co-founder Ray Muzyka were present at a recent company meeting.

Zeschuk’s LinkedIn profile reveals that he left his position as general manager of BioWare Austin in May 2012.

Former Major League Gaming CEO Matthew Bromberg has replaced Zeschuk, according to an alleged quote from EA and Bromberg’s LinkedIn profile.

“When Greg Zeschuk announced the reorganisation of [BioWare Austin] in May, he outlined his plan to return to his family in Edmonton for a much deserved vacation,” EA told GamersGlobal.

“Greg also announced the new GM of BioWare Austin and Old Republic, Matt Bromberg.

“Greg is still with EA. He’s now back in Canada, taking time off and thinking about new projects. No change with Ray Muzyka.”

GamersGlobal’s sources also claim that there is a “fear” within BioWare Austin that the studio could be re-branded as ‘EA Austin’, and that the studio was facing mounting “internal pressure”.

Zeschuk co-founded BioWare in 1995 alongside Muzyka. Both previous had careers in the medical profession, earning them the moniker ‘the Doctors’. The duo lead development on classic RPGs Baldur’s Gate and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and have were co-executive producers on the Dragon Age and Mass Effect series.

EA has refused to comment on the reports.
