Premium titles lead Editors picks for iPhone and iPad
Apple has revealed the best games of 2013 on the App Store.
The Editor's Choice for best iPhone game of the year went to Vlambeer's fishing title Ridiculous Fishing - A Tale of Redemption.
Priced at £1.99, the title has has an average five star rating from 1,199 customer reviews.
Runners up to the accolade were Simogo's interactive novel and texture adventure Device 6, another premium game, and PopCap's free-to-play tower defence title Plants vs Zombies 2.
Atmospheric side-scrolling adventure game Badland was named as the game of the year for iPad. The title was developed by Finnish indie developer Frogmind, recently named in our list of Europe's top 100 game start-ups.
Runners up for top iPad game were 2K's XCom: Enemy Unknown, and Impossible road by Kevin Ng.
All three titles are paid-for apps.
Apple has also celebrated a number of other themes and categories in its yearly round-up, such as memorable characters. These included NaturalMotion's Clumsy Ninja, Ubisoft's Rayman and Mr. Crab by Illusion Lab.
The top "blockbuster" titles on the App Store in 2013 were named as FIFA 14, Plants vs Zombies 2, Deus Ex: The Fall, Infinity Blade III, Asphalt 8: Airborne and Angry Birds Star Wars II.
Notable indie games included Limbo, Oceanhorn, Joe Danger, rymdkapsel, Mikey Hooks and Epoch.2.
