Changes could see Don Mattrick take up larger role at computing giant

Report: Microsoft considers major company shake-up

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is reportedly considering major changes within company management.

AllThingsD brings word that the tweaking of the top brass would focus on turning Microsoft into a “devices and services” company.

Ballmer previously outlined as much in an October shareholders call: "This is a significant shift, both in what we do and how we see ourselves – as a devices and services company. It impacts how we run the company, how we develop new experiences, and how we take products to market for both consumers and businesses."

The restructuring could impact Microsoft’s Xbox division, by reportedly providing president Don Mattrick with a larger role. Other top execs may also see expanded responsibilities, including president of Microsoft’s Servers and Tools division, Satya Nadella and president of Skype communications division, Tony Bates.

Console competitor Sony is also in the midst of considering some major company restructuring, recently bringing in multiple financial services firms to research the viability of splitting the company’s entertainment division from its electronics sector.
