But takeover rumours dispelled by sources 'with knowledge of the matter'

EA is looking to forge a partnership with Nexon to distribute its next FIFA Online game in Asia, according to a report.

Three sources with “knowledge of the matter” have told Bloomberg that publishing giant EA is looking to use Nexon’s online servers and developers in Asia on the game, particularly those placed in South Korea.

The aim is to help persuade Asian customers to spend money on in-game virtual items such as team jerseys and player-experience points.

The partnership could officially be announced in June.

News of the potential partnership comes after rumours that South Korean publisher and developer had contacted EA about a takeover bid.

The sources have however apparently dispelled these reports as false, claiming the two publishers “are not discussing a merger”.

The online gaming company, which has developed games such as MMOG Maple story, launched its IPO in Japan last year, the biggest in the country during the period, and raised $1.2 billion.
