'Internal source' says game was officially canned last week

Report claims The Last Guardian cancelled, Sony denies rumour

Sony’s long-awaited The Last Guardian may have been cancelled, according to a report.

An “internal source” has allegedly told IGN Russia the game’s cancellation was confirmed during an internal meeting last week.

Sony’s Scott Rohde however has denied the claims. He tweeted “@Yosp [Shuhei Yoshida] and I laughed at this rumor over dinner. The Last Guardian has NOT been cancelled”.

Some fans had hoped the game might make an E3 appearance, though as yet there have been no suggestions that will be the case.

The Last Guardian was first revealed at E3 2009 by developer Team ICO, the team behind PS2 titles Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

Little has been heard of the game since then. Last year Yoshida suggested the game is being re-engineered with a small team after earlier reports claimed the game was on an indefinite hiatus.

A listing is currently available on Amazon of The Last Guardian for PS3 with a release data set for December 31st, 2014.
