New tablet to feature screen 'smaller than eight inches'; Production 'to begin in September', claims sources

Report: Apple working on smaller iPad

Apple is working on a new smaller tablet device, according to a report.

Sources ‘familiar with the situation’ have told The Wall Street Journal that Apple’s component suppliers in Asia are currently preparing to mass-produce the new tablet in September.

The new tablet will apparently come with a screen smaller than eight inches, compared to the 9.7 inch screen-size the new iPad currently has.

Apple’s latest iPad, which included a 3.1 million pixel retina display and 1080p HD video recording, was released in March this year, with the tech giant claiming it had sold out on pre-orders before launch due to high demand.

In April, the company also reported sales for its iPad were up 151 per cent from the previous year to 11.7 million.
