Realtime Worlds clarifies Crackdown sequel stance

Studio would "still dearly love" to develop game, but only when the time is right

Realtime Worlds has made an official comment about a sequel to its game Crackdown after 'overwhelming' fan responses to our story from two weeks ago in which the studio confirmed it was working on other projects.

At a Codeworks GameHorizon event at the start of September producer Phil Wilson said the studio was not working on a sequel to the award-winning game, saying "Microsoft were a little late in stepping up to the plate to ask for Crackdown 2, and by then we had already started working on bigger, better things.".

However a number of fans have expressed dismay that the game won't be getting a follow up from RTW.

Now, via a post at the studio's official site, the team has aimed to "set the record straight" and explain why they've moved on to another project.

"We’ve been overwhelmed by the response to the news that we’re not working on a sequel to Crackdown," the post begins.

"Planning for the sequel happened at such a late stage though, long after the completion of the original, that we needed to redirect the team’s efforts to other major projects under development.

"We would still dearly love to take on the development of Crackdown 2, but only if the opportunity presents itself at a time when we have available team resources to develop the game to the quality it deserves. We are committed to only producing world class games, and to rebuild a team from scratch, and deliver on the timeline required, would have left both RTW and fans of Crackdown disappointed."
