Former Human Head writer says game was 'a full game'

Prey 2 not just a demo, claims dev

A former Employee of Prey 2 developer Human Head has attacked what he calls "the lie" that the game was nothing more than a demo.

The troubled game was taken out of the studio’s hands, and is reported by Kotaku to be headed to Arkane Studios.

Bethesda has declined to comment on the rumors, but the company did confirm in April of last year that the game was still in development.

"Development of Prey 2 has not been canceled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned.” said the company.

"The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans.”

"We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule."

The latest rumors have re-heated the controversy around the game, with some suggesting the demo was just “a lot of smoke and mirrors.”

In response Jason Blair, who was a writer and narrative designer on the game, lashed out on Twitter over the claims the game “was just a demo.”

“This Prey 2/Arkane rumor is giving new life to a lot of old lies,” said Blair.

“I’m been quiet about this whole business but can’t stay so anymore.”

Blair says the game was playable and a lot of fun and that decision to take the project from Human Head was political

“Prey 2 was a full game. And a crazy fun one. The team was small but you wouldn’t have known it,” he said.

“What happened to Prey 2, from where I sat, was political. And petty. And potentially litigable [sic]. Human Head had a great game.”

Blair was keen to point out he wasn’t attacking any specific company, just the rumors associated with the game.

"But I mourn that Prey 2 won’t belong to Human Head. I mourn that my friends won’t get recognition for what they accomplished,” he concluded.

"Instead, they get the same old ‘Prey 2 was never a game’ and ‘It was just a demo’ thrown around. Shameful. And completely untrue."
