Valve â??gunning forâ?? online play to cross platform boundaries in major upcoming title

Portal 2 gets console/PC cross-compatibility

Valve’s Portal 2 presentation at E3 was a major event for the studio, and one at which project manager Erik Johnson revealed that the company are hoping to make the title’s online co-op gameplay cross-compatible between Steam and Steamworks, specifically between PS3 and PC’s.

Consumer website The Kartel then confirmed this statement with Valve developer Mike Dunkle, who said: “The plan is that you will be able to play between console and PC.”

No mention was made as to how far the company would be looking to take the cross-compatibility at first, but it would seem safe to assume that if it proves a popular move, they may well look into expanding the function across other titles.

When questioned about the possibility of seeing the cross-compatibility on the Xbox 360 as well, Johnson said that there are no current plans for such a move, but that the ball is in Microsoft’s court.
