One of the world’s most infamous cracking teams has sounded the death knell for pirated PC titles.
The anonymous founder of Chinese forum 3DM, known as Bird Sister, revealed the group’s struggle to compromise the notoriously robust DRM system Denuvo.
Back in 2014, the software was noted for its valiant effort to protect Dragon Age: Inquisition from crackers, with the game lasting nearly a month before finally being pirated – a respectable time in a world where titles are often spread on torrents before they even hit shelves.
Denuvo stepped up its game for 2015, with both Just Cause 3 and FIFA 16 remaining tightly encrypted months after release, despite 3DM’s best efforts.
“Recently, many people have asked about cracks for ‘Just Cause 3′, so here is a centralised answer to this question,” Bird Sister posted on her blog (via TorrentFreak).
“The last stage is too difficult and [lead cracker] Jun nearly gave up, but last Wednesday I encouraged him to continue.”
Although she eventually expressed her belief that Just Cause 3 will be cracked – eventually – she added that the increasing efficiency of DRM to keep titles safe from illegal distribution means that PC piracy could soon be a thing of the past.
“I still believe that this game can be compromised,” said Bird Sister.
“But according to current trends in the development of encryption technology, in two years time I’m afraid there will be no free games to play in the world.”
