Virtual reality goggles receives $10,000 backing from Notch

Oculus Rift kickstarter flies past $400k

The Kickstarter for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset has stormed past $400,000 mere hours after launch.

The campaign, launched just weeks after the Ouya hit the crowdfunding site, has joined the open, hackable console in drumming up major support from key industry players.

"What I’ve got now, is, I honestly think the best VR demo probably the world has ever seen," said legendary programmer John Carmack, an early enthusiast for the project.

The video features appearances from Cliff Bleszinski, Gabe Newell, and Unity co-founder David Helgason, and minecraft creator Marcus Persson has confirmed that he has personally contributed $10,000.

Notch also revealed on Twitter that Mojang could look to make some of its titles compatible with the device.

With the initial funding goal of $250,000 well in the dust, all that remains for this campaign is to see how far it can go.

So far the Rift has recieved over $450,000 in funding.
