First 1,000 purchases to receive Doom 3: BFG Edition to show off tech's capabilities

Development kit pre-orders for virtual reality headset Oculus Rift have gone live.

The headset, which garnered more than $2.4 million from 9,500 backers during its Kickstarter campaign, currently costs $300 for US developers, and $345 for international shipping.

The price is the same as during the crowdfunding initiative, although developers then were able to purchase an unassembled kit for $275.

Whilst estimated delivery for Kickstarter backers is November and December, those who pre-order on the Oculus website will receive the development kit in January.

The first 1,000 people to make pre-orders will also receive a copy of Doom 3: BFG Edition to help show off the capabilities of the device.
