Virtual reality firm aims to improve developer experience through online community

Oculus opens digital marketplace for VR games

Oculus has opened a new online marketplace allowing developers to self-publish and users to discover content for its Rift headset.

Called Oculus Share, the platform is designed to improve the developer experience on the VR tech. As well as self-publishing, users can also download and play other VR games created by the community.

Developers can also offer feedback to other creators, as well as offer them money for their efforts.

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey said he hoped that while the platform currently only offered simple sharing services, he hoped in future it would turn into a real marketplace for VR games.

All submissions will go through an approval process.

“Experimentation, iteration, and actual playtesting are at the heart of pushing virtual reality forward,” said Luckey.

“One of the main goals in building Share was to help developers on all these fronts by creating a centralised community portal for Oculus content. And while it’s simply a sharing service today, over the coming months we’ll work toward making Share an incredible marketplace for Oculus-ready games, experiences, and applications.”
