Oculus go on hiring spree and advertise their expansion into AR

Oculus seems to be about to enter the alternate reality market and is currently hiring for over 100 roles.

The Facebook backed creator of the Oculus Rift VR headset has had a few big hiring pushes before, but as UploadVR points out, the company have never hired at this scale before, with the roles on offer at a range of fields across Oculus’ business.

31 of these roles are located at Oculus Research, a division of the company that focusses on the long-term study of VR in all applications. Chief Scientist Michael Abrash took to the stage at Oculus Connect 3 to speak about many areas of VR technology that he thought would improve in the next five years, claiming that there will be plenty of research work to be done to help the technology reach those lengths. In addition to the raft of jobs in the area, Oculus recently put out a call for research, offering a $250,000 grant for research in several fields.

The most exciting job role on offer is the role of AR incubation lead, with the description reading: "Your job will be to build, manage, lead and inspire a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, programmers, specialists, and designers who, working with world-class researchers, will build AR technology that opens the path to everyday use for a billion people. Your team will prototype complete systems that will bring together work in machine perception, optics, displays, human perception, haptics, audio, input, graphics, UI/UX, mobile computing, silicon, sensing, batteries, and whatever else is needed to create a truly compelling AR experience."

This points pretty clear at Oculus diving into AR in the very near future, and with the company’s giant hire-a-thon, it seems they’re willing to get spendy to establish themselves in the field.
