Nintendo details answer to ‘Wii storage woes’

At GDC today Nintendo finally answered criticism from gamers and developers that the storage capacity of the Wii was too small – by upgrading the console to support high capacity SD cards.

The Wii System Menu 4.0 firmware, available to download to consoles today, introduces a new Menu in the hardware, which links to inserted SD cards.

High capacity cards – which are now available in sizes as big as 32GB – can hold up to 240 downloaded from the Virtual Console or WiiWare.

Nintendo is also updating the WiiShop so that games can be downloaded direct to SD card.

Content can also be launched direct from the SC card after ‘a short loading time’.
