HumanIK and Mudbox used for next PlayStation game

Paris studio Quantic Dream has licensed two Autodesk tools for its next mystery project, the company has announced.

The Heavy Rain developer has bought a licence to use the HumanIK middleware – which allows animations to blend better with in-game objects – as well as the object sculpting tool Mudbox.

“Previously we were using another sculpting product, but we are impressed with how far Mudbox has come over the past few releases,” said Quantic Dream technology exec Damien Castelltort.

“The interoperability between Maya and Mudbox is a big plus for us,” he added.

The studio’s co-CEO, Guillaume de Fondaumière, said of the Autodesk deal: “Believable characters are crucial when you intend to evoke an emotional response during gameplay. HumanIK will help us achieve more realistic animations, while reducing the amount of time required implementing them.”
