Website established by ex-Irrational VP and PC Zone publisher

New indie resource site IndieDevKit goes live

A new website has been launched to help indie developers learn more about self-publishing their games.

IndieDevKit offers guides on a wide variety of topics, compiled by experts from across the industry, as well as a directory of handy vendors and service firms and a calendar of useful networking events and conferences.

Guides available include a basic intro to legal operations, ‘Anatomy of a Modern Press Release’ for studios looking to spread the word about their title, and a budget wizard to help them operate as efficiently as possible.

Not all of this information is available for free. The downloadable guides can be purchased for between $5 and $15, while the interactive wizards – designed to help with budgeting, promotion and localisation – are running on a ‘pay what you want’ model.

The site has been established by Tim Ponting, a long-running games industry PR who also launched popular UK magazine PC Zone, and Leonie Manshanden, owner of SouthPaw Strategy and previously a VP at Irrational Games.

“We created IndieDevKit because we passionately believe no one should have to rely on anecdotal information to make critical decisions for their studio or game launch,” said Ponting. “After watching people make the same mistakes over and over again because they could not afford help, we wanted to make our experience accessible to all studios, even those who are bootstrapping.”

The site officially launches tomorrow, with the Ponting and Mashanden hoping to add new content regularly.
