PlayStation Home developer experimenting with new business models

nDreams takes first foray into mobile

UK studio nDreams has expanded into mobile game development.

The company, which has previously focused on titles for PlayStation Home, has released its first two games on iOS, PubPlay: Drinking Games and Dash’s Family Photo Face-Off.

The experimental games are designed to be played by groups of people around a single phone. PubPlay is a free-to-play title that offers a number of mini-games to challenge friends on, while Dash’s Family Photo Face-off tasks players with taking and rating pictures based on a series of funny questions, and is priced at 69p.

nDreams digital product manager Joe Dale said trying out two different business models and audiences would provide the studio with important data to help inform the development of future titles.

“Acquisition, retention and monetisation are the three key elements to mobile gaming and free-to-play and paid apps require different strategies for all three,” said Dale.

“These games will allow us to experiment, and help shape the development of future titles.”

nDreams has previously developed content for PlayStation Home such as Aurora, alternate reality title Xi, and shooter Bootleggers ’29.
