NCsoft Europe picks ProFX

Allegorithmic's procedural texturing tech to be used in PC and PS3 MMOs

The Brighton-based European development arm of Korean online giant NCsoft has picked Allegorithmic's ProFX procedural texturing technology for forthcoming PC and PS3 massively multiplayer games.

By choosing to utilise procedural textures for its MMO, NCsoft will be able to significantly reduce the size of the client and of updates, with ProFX textures being around 500 to 2,000 times smaller than a traditional texture.

“The Allegorithmic team has been excellent to work with, very responsive to our specific game and platform needs,” commented Jay Scott, head of product development for NCsoft Europe.

“The reduced footprint that ProFX affords us will give users a better game experience by vastly decreasing client size and reducing update download times.”
