Transition from PS2 to PS3 were the 'darkest days' for studio, says co-president Evan Wells

The prospect of moving on to next-gen consoles is a “terrifying” experience, says Naughty Dog head Christophe Balestra.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Balestra said the Uncharted studio had made mistakes from the previous console transition and was keen to learn form them for the jump to the PS4.

"We made some mistakes with our move from PS2 to PS3 and we won't make those again,” he said.

Co-president Evan Wells also revealed that the console transition was “the period that Naughty Dog had its darkest days and we lost people on a weekly basis, people just couldn't get through it".

He added: “When you're going to new technology, every day is a slog, progress is slow and it really takes a different kind of attitude and mentality to get through that kind of push and it's not right for everybody."

Despite experiencing a tough switch to PS3, Naughty Dog has risen in stature following its blockbuster Uncharted series, winning the developer critical acclaim for its efforts.
