Work-for-hire studio hires Dragon Age director and other genre veterans for new project

n-Space teams up with Warframe dev Digital Extremes for mysterious RPG

Florida-based studio n-Space has announced a new partnership with Digital Extremes, the developer of Warframe, to work on a mysterious new RPG project.

The two studios will "merge their unique talents and experience to release an exciting new RPG set within a world-renowned fantasy franchise". There’s no other hint as to what franchise this might be, although Digital Extremes CEO James Schmalz claims RPG fans are "going to flip when [they] see it".

n-Space has even announced new hires in preparation for the project, including the director of BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins and key contributors from the teams behind Neverwinter Nights and Baldur’s Gate.

The studio says this will be its first independent game project, stepping away from its decades of work-for-hire contributions such as mobile versions of Call of Duty and Skylanders. It has been self-funding the development of this title for two years.

The mystery game will be announced next week and is due for release on February 12th.

"We are working on one of the best IPs in the world with a talented, passionate team that will help redefine the future of n-Space," said co-founder and CEO Dan O’Leary. "Our friends at Digital Extremes are the perfect partner in this, having travelled a similar path through the industry. Levaraging their experience in self-publishing allows us to focus on delivering an amazing RPG to gamers later this year."

Digital Extremes’ Schmalz added: "Our contribution to n-Space’s game is simple and straightforward. We’re a developer that can successful develop, self-publish and support an international hit – we have proved as much with Warfram and its 14m players.

"We learned many valuable lessons along the way and now have the means and talent to help another independent developer achieve a level of success not possible with conventional publisher relationships."
