Warhammer game 'could not meet its financial goals to be sustained'
Mythic Entertainment is closing down its first ever free-to-play title Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes next month.
The arena battle title went into beta just over a year ago, but will now be officially shut down on March 29th after the project “could not meet its financial goals to be sustained”.
Users who purchased in-game gems will not receive refunds, although these can still be used till the game is finally closed.
Wrath of Heroes producer James Casey said that despite dropping the game, the studio had learnt numerous lessons about the free-to-play market and was also able to test new server technology with the title.
“As a producer for this game from the start, I am proud of the hard work and effort that made the game possible and I feel sad that it is not able to carry on,” said Casey.
“I think we created something special and I would not trade the time creating it or playing it (on all those Friday Fight Fests and anonymously almost every day) for anything.”
