Mind Candy founder Michael Acton Smith has been honoured with an OBE in the New Year’s honours list.
Smith formed the company in 2003, and later began development of the hugely successful online game Moshi Monsters in 2007.
The franchise has since continued to grow, branching out from its online roots and into the toys, books and music markets. The company has also released three games on the DS and 3DS.
“This is amazing news to round off what has been a magical year for Moshi Monsters," he said.
"I’m honored and thrilled to be awarded this OBE and to be in such impressive company, but obviously this is an accolade that all the team at Mind Candy and Firebox can be proud of."
Former ARM chief executive Warren East, who recently retired from the computer chip firm in July, was also honoured with an OBE.
