Former Codies CEO and UK video game industry veteran joins developer and middleware provider

UK video game industry veteran Nick Wheelwright has joined Monumental Games as non-executive chairman.

The former CEO of Codemasters and managing director of Playground Games brings almost 20 years of experience in the gaming industry to the company, which serves as both game developer and middleware provider.

“We welcome Nick to the board and look forward to working with him to take the company to the next level. His experience and advice will be invaluable to the senior management team and we aim to build on what has already been a successful start to 2010,” said Rik Alexander, CEO at Monumental Games.

“Working with Rik and the Monumental team is an exciting proposition having seen the games industry develop over the past two decades,” added Wheelwright. “We’re at a very exciting point in the industry’s history and the Monumental team is constantly pushing the boundaries and coming up with fresh ideas, as is demonstrated by the development of games such as Little Horrors.”

Wheelwright is charged with helping to build on the success of titles including Moto GP 09/10 and Football Superstars.
