Film company said to have bought rights to take game to the big screen

Warner Bros is in talks with Mojang to make a Minecraft movie, says the game's creator.

Mojang founder Markus Persson tweeted the developer was working with the film company to potentially bring it to the big screen.

The statement comes as Deadline reports that sources "inside the studio" (Warner Bros) claimed it had acquired the rights to make the game into a film.

The report claimed that LEGO Movie producer Roy Lee is set to oversee the project.

Minecraft has been a massive hit since its release in 2009 - with the full release going live in 2011, and it was recently revealed that the title had reached 100 million registered PC users, with 14.3 million of those purchasing the full game.

The title has been successful on other platforms too, selling more than ten million copies on Xbox 360, as well as getting a PS3 release in December last year, selling more than one million copies already.
