Annual license opens up thousands of assets to developers

Character animation firm Mixamo is now offering unlimited access to all of its animations through the Unity Asset Store.

The new license means developers can access the company’s thousands of animations and assets for $500 per year.

Speaking to Develop, Mixamo CEO Stefano Corazza said that Unity users would be able to access its animations at any time and could download as many as they wanted from within the editor.

“We want to get as close as possible to the perfect user experience,” said Corazza.

“This way users don’t even have to go to an external website, they can just access the service from within the tool on which they are most familiar.

“Most of our users are using 3d Studio Max and the most commonly used game engine amongst our customers is Unity so we wanted to target those two platforms first.”

As well as releasing the unlimited animation plug-in, Mixamo and Unity are also currently working on offering unlimited access to Mecanim for Unity 4 in the future.

“Offering unprecedented all-you-can-eat access to thousands of motions provides a lot of freedom to Unity users”, said Unity CEO David Helgason.

“Access to the Unlimited Mixamo Animation Store will empower developers and allow them to experiment and polish their work without any extra cost.

"This is a big step towards facilitating the process of game design, and together with Mecanim will free developers from the restraints of animation pipelines that are inaccessible to smaller dev teams while opening newer, quicker ways for larger teams to prototype.”

Mixamo is currently offering 25 per cent off the annual license for those who sign up before November 16th.
