World-building title amasses more than 1.2 million sales during Christmas week alone
Mojang has revealed that Minecraft sold a hugely impressive 15 million copies in 2012.
Total sales of the world-building title for the period covering December 24th to the 30th alone meanwhile were numbered at 1,273,855.
Christmas day says hit 455,163.
Splitting the number of sales between platform, Mojang said that on December 25th alone, Minecraft had been bought 70,808 times on PC and Mac, while during the Christmas week it was purchased 241,845. Throughout the year a total of 4,177,843 copies were sold.
The Minecraft Xbox 360 version sold 100,416 copies on Christmas, and was sold a total of 325,591 times throughout the week. Total sales for the 360 port stood at 5,002,370.
Lastly, the Minecraft: Pocket Edition for iOS and Android was downloaded 283,989 times, on Christmas day, and a combined total of 706,419 during the week.
Sales for the year meanwhile reached 5,899,727, making mobile the most popular platform for purchasing Minecraft during 2012. Although this was pipped by the PC edition during the Christmas period.
