Microsoft shipped 3.9 million Xbox One consoles in the three months ending December 31st in a record revenue making financial quarter for the firm.
To date the firm has sold more than three million Xbox Ones to consumers. In total, it shipped 7.9m consoles, including 3.5 million Xbox 360s.
During the last quarter, Microsoft reported revenue of $24.52 billion (£14.7bn). Net income stood at $6.5bn (£3.9bn), up from the $6.3bn (£3.7bn) made during the same period the year prior.
Devices and consumer hardware revenue revenue grew from $2.8bn (£1.6bn) in 2012, to $4.7bn (£2.8bn) in the last quarter.
Revenue for Microsoft’s Surface tablet also doubled from $400 million (£240m) in the first quarter to $893m (£537m) in the second quarter.
“Our Commercial segment continues to outpace the overall market, and our Devices and Consumer segment had a great holiday quarter,” said outgoing Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
“The investments we are making in devices and services that deliver high-value experiences to our customers, and the work we are doing with our partners, are driving strong results and positioning us well for long-term growth.”
