Platinum's latest title is no more

After four years of development, Microsoft Studios have cancelled Xbox One exclusive Scalebound.

Speculation has been swirling around the game yesterday after Kotaku published a report which stated the game was currently in trouble, and possibly cancelled. After that report broke, sources started reaching out to games sites that the alleged cancellation was true, before Microsoft themselves came out to confirm the cancellation themselves, with the below statement:

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We're working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences."

At the time of writing, Microsoft was in the process of removing Scalebound videos from its social media channels, and had already scrubbed the Scalebound page from its website.

It's not sure what this means for Platinum, and whether or not we'll see Scalebound reborn into something new, but for the moment it appears work on the game has concluded. Sources speaking to Eurogamer have said that since the game was seen at Gamescom this August, relationships between the tech giant Microsoft and the developer has soured after the game fell behind schedule as people started to struggle with continuing issues with the heavy workload.
